Temple Beth-El Happenings

Temple Beth-El's Selma and Jacob Brown Religious School welcomes our new Director of Congregational Learning Marci Barnes, who began earlier this month.

Marci joins Beth-El following the retirement of the synagogue's Director of Youth Learning, Ramona Brand, who served Beth-El for 10 years and dedicated many years before that to Jewish education in Richmond and beyond.

Ramona will continue to work with Beth-El through the High Holy Days and to teach on Wednesdays this year at our school.

Until relocating to Richmond, Marci had spent most of her life in and around the Pittsburgh area where she served in Education Director roles for 7 years at area Religious Schools. In addition, she has been teaching, tutoring, consulting and leading at Jewish institutions for her entire life.

Marci has a B.A. in Journalism with specialization in radio broadcasting and a minor in Hebrew from The Ohio State University and has done graduate work at Chicago’s Spertus Institute and the WUJS Institute in Arad, Israel.

She has hit the ground running in her new role in Virginia, working towards engagement of students of all ages and to continue to guide Temple Beth-El and its community in positive Jewish experiences planned for this year and beyond.

Registration is now open for this year’s Religious School program for students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th Grade.  Classes begin Sunday, August 30, with a whole host of services and activities through the High Holy Days and beyond at both Temple Beth-El campuses, on Parham Road in Henrico and on Grove Avenue in the Museum District.
