As spring gave way to summer, Kehillah continued to prove that Jewish life in Richmond can be joyful, creative, and deeply welcoming.
In May, our community gathered for a number of meaningful events across the region.
We celebrated Shabbat in Church Hill at Second Arrow, where participants shared dinner, music, prayer, and spiritual teachings in an intimate setting. We also marked Shavuot with one of our most imaginative family programs to date: “Shavuot Shabbat: Mountain of Ice Cream” at Art Factory. This interactive retelling of the giving of the Torah featured a “Mount Sinai-sized Mountain of Ice Cream,” music by Rabbi Patrick and Robin Rio, art activities for children, and a free Jewish kids’ bookstore.
The event captured what Kehillah does best—combining tradition, creativity, and community in a way that is accessible to all.
Throughout the month, our work of community care also continued through Kehillah Cares, volunteer efforts, and one-on-one pastoral support. Whether someone joined us for a holiday celebration, met with the rabbi, or connected through one of our growing Social Circles, the message remained the same: you matter.
June promises to be equally exciting.
This month also marks a major outreach opportunity as we prepare the JCC Pride Week, where Kehillah will be collaborating with Congregation Or Atid for a Shabbat service with kirtan, LGBTQ+ themed poetry and prayer, niggunim and traditional tefillah. This will be followed by the Federation NextGen dinner.

We’ll have a Shabbat morning brunch and Torah study at our Church Hill location the next day – so don’t miss out.
As always, Kehillah remains open to everyone—regardless of background, identity, or financial circumstances. There are no big buildings, no membership dues, and all are welcome. Jewish life, in your life, the way you want it.
