Congregation Or Atid Plans Major Celebration This Fall. Stay Tuned…
Three Years and Counting for Rabbi Sherry at Or Atid
Congregation Or Atid will celebrate three years since Rabbi Sherry Grinsteiner came to Richmond as religious leader during a musical Shabbat with dinner to be held on Friday, July 18 at 6 p.m. at the synagogue.
She served in the IDF, reaching the rank of First Lieutenant and Commanding Officer of a special unit of 200 teacher-soldiers, tasked with delivering education to disadvantaged youth. Prior to accepting the position at Or Atid, she served as Ritual Director and then Rabbi/Director of Lifelong Learning at Hebrew Educational Alliance in Denver.
Since joining Or Atid, the Rabbi has hit the ground running, increasing our membership, religious school enrollment, and community outreach. She knows exactly how to get congregants involved in various synagogue activities with a smile on her face.
She has been a blessing to the synagogue.
Rabbi Sherry and her husband have four sons.
Reservations for the dinner are required. Both gluten free and vegetarian options are available. Reservations must be made either on-line or by calling the office at (804) 740-4747 by July 15.

Or Atid hosts documentary on plight of Soviet Jews
In 1991, nearly 800 Jews from the former Soviet Union began new lives in Richmond.
Recently, Congregation Or Atid welcomed more than 50 guests for a screening of “Draw Back the Curtain,” a powerful documentary produced by Jewish Family Services, Richmond, capturing the highs and lows of the journey those Soviet Jews went through in their pursuit of the American dream.
Filmmaker Shir Bodner traveled from Israel to join the Korshin family in celebrating 35 years in the United States through reflection, conversation and community.

Garden produces results at Or Atid
As summer approaches, the Gan Chesed Kindness Garden at Or Atid is starting to show early signs of big things to come this summer.
So far, volunteers tending the garden have harvested 14 pounds of cabbage, which will be shared at the Elmer Toth Food Pantry at the Weinstein JCC.
A big thank you to Norm Geller (pictured) for installing the irrigation system and netting for the garden’s growing zucchini and cucumbers.
The season is just getting started, and the garden is thriving!
