Religious School
Religious School students stayed busy this month with a variety of classroom activities! Fourth graders made their own hummus,
First Steps (pre-Kindergarten) and Kindergarten students created Shema pillows, fifth graders and their parent’s discussed ethics from a Jewish perspective, and parents of second and third graders took a deep dive into the Jewish year with all its holidays and celebrations.
Both BATTY (Beth Ahabah Teens and Temple Youth) groups were also active in November, with the younger kids making scarves for CARITAS, creating cards for U.S. military members stationed in the U.S. and abroad, and painting rocks for Hebrew Cemetery. Teen BATTY enjoyed a Saturday afternoon movie and snacks, followed by Havdalah. Both groups are looking forward to a Chanukah party in early December!
November Choir Cabaret
Beth Ahabah is home to some extremely talented singers! On Sunday, Nov. 16, nine members of Beth Ahabah’s adult volunteer choir—along with Cantor Sarah Beck-Berman and Music Director and Accompanist Natan Berenshteyn—gathered to showcase their favorite love songs from Broadway and beyond. Ticket proceeds will help fund future concerts and other musical events at the congregation.
Scouts BSA Troop 437
Mazal Tov to Scoutmaster Jonathan Silverman of Beth Ahabah’s own Troop 437!
After participating in two weekend training sessions last year and completing five goals related to recruitment for Cub Pack and Troop 437, Jon has earned his Wood Badge beads. The beads, along with a neckerchief and leather woggle, symbolize the completion of this preeminent adult leader training program. Wood Badge is an advanced leadership course open to all adult volunteers in Scouting; however, less than half of adult leaders earn this designation. Sarah Roper, the troop’s Chartered Organization Representative, also earned her Wood Badge beads earlier this year.
For more information about joining the Cub Scout Pack (open to youth in Kindergarten through fifth grade) or the Scouts BSA Troop (open to youth in sixth grade and up), please contact Sarah Roper at programs@bethahabah.org or call (804) 358-6757.
Chanukah is Coming!
Come celebrate Chanukah at Beth Ahabah on Friday, December 19!
Wear your best and brightest Chanukah finery—sweaters, pajamas, hats, socks, etc.—and bring your favorite chanukiah to participate in the congregational candle lighting. The voices of our very own Beth Ahabah choir will add to the festivities, and everyone in the community is welcome and invited to attend.
