Beth-El Religious School Happenings

Shana Tova Tikatevu

The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting cooler, and Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back! It must be autumn, when school begins and the High Holidays are near! We anticipate the sweetness of new beginnings and the serious work of self-improvement.

We also long for the familiar sounds of prayers being chanted, the smells of holiday food and the comfort of being together in community when we say, “May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable to You, Adonai, my strength and my redeemer.”  Shana Tova, Umetukah, may we all have a good and sweet year!

Sweet Apple and Honey Muffins

Symbolizing sweetness and new beginnings

Apples dipped in honey are the quintessential treat of Rosh Hashanah, symbolizing the hope for a sweet year ahead. These apple and honey muffins are a fun twist on the classic and easy for kids to make.

2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon.

3. In another bowl, whisk the egg, milk, honey, and oil.

What’s New, What’s News!

Religious School receives grant for Beit Midrash High School program.

The religious school gratefully acknowledges a generous grant from Richmond Jewish Foundation for this year's Beit Midrash program. This program will expand our academic learning through the 12th grade, making us a full-service Religious School from Pre-K through 12th grade.

Beit Midrash: a subset of our teen learning, brings 10th-12th grades together with Rabbi Salston for a serious and academic study of Torah, Talmud and other Jewish sacred texts.

The program will also focus on creating opportunities for students to participate in services, and mitzvot. We will also be expanding our circle of learning, with a multi-day teen learning trip this spring to places of Jewish interest between Richmond and Philadelphia.
