Beth Ahabah Happenings

By Sarah Roper, Programs Manager

Summer Congregational Cookout

On July 11th, the Beth Ahabah Brotherhood grilled and served hot dogs and burgers at our first of two summer cookouts following the congregation's Erev Shabbat service. Approximately 100 members and guests also enjoyed potato salad, coleslaw, chips, and snow cones, as well as vegetarian and gluten-free options. Thank you so much to all of our amazing volunteers. We are looking forward to our next cookout in August!

It’s Time to Register for Religious School!

Religious School classes for pre-K through 7th graders begin on Sunday, Sept. 7, and it's not too early to register!

Our Religious School curriculum is developed in-house and compiled into a book that the entire school uses; each class learns the same curriculum each week in a way appropriate to the grade level.

This year, students will learn about weekly Torah portions; Jewish values; Hebrew vocabulary; prayers; and Israeli culture, history, and geography.

Our 8th – 12th graders are eligible to work as madrichim, or teachers’ assistants, on Sunday mornings throughout the year. Sunday FUNday—the opening day of Religious School followed by snacks, games, and fun—takes place on Sunday, Sept. 7.

Please see BethAhabah.org for membership and registration information, and contact Heather Dinkin, Director of Congregational Operations, at hdinkin@bethahabah.org if you have questions.

Students in the 8th - 12th grades are encouraged to take Beit Midrash classes on Monday evenings, while 10th graders participate in Confirmation courses with the clergy.

11th and 12th graders are invited to monthly "Drop Ins" on Monday nights during the school year; dinner is provided for them on those nights, followed by an activity or service project, as well as a snack from a local restaurant.

BATTY Groups

Beth Ahabah Teens and Temple Youth (BATTY) groups offer students in 2nd – 12th grades the opportunity to connect with other Jewish youth in a fun and supportive environment.

Recent youth group activities have included Chanukah and Passover celebrations, holiday cooking workshops, cardmaking for Jewish American service members and Israeli soldiers, field trips, and a polymer clay mezuzah class.

BATTY is affiliated with The National Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY), which offers opportunities to teens to connect on a regional and/or national level. The teen youth group (8th – 12th grades) is run by its own four-member board.

For questions about BATTY, please contact Sarah Roper at programs@bethahabah.org.

We look forward to seeing our students, parents, and teachers on the first Sunday in September!
