What’s Happening at Beth Ahabah

By Sarah Roper

On Thursday, Aug. 21, Beth Ahabah’s Young Adult Community Kibbitz (YACK) kicked off the High Holy Day season by baking apple and honey cookies and a gluten-free apple upside-down cake. Attendees made delicious desserts as well as new friends!

If you would like to be notified of upcoming young adult events, please email Sarah Roper at programs@bethahabah.org. All Jewish young adults (20s – 40s) are welcome to attend YACK events.

Religious School is back in full swing! This year, we are welcoming more than 150 students on Sunday mornings. We are thrilled to offer a vibrant Religious School curriculum for pre-K to 10th graders, as well as a robust madrichim (teaching assistant) program for our teens. In addition to classroom learning, students visit the Beth Ahabah Museum and Archives to learn about the congregation’s history and view ritual objects in the museum’s collection. We also offer two NFTY-affiliated youth groups—one for 2nd – 7th graders, and the other for 8th – 12th graders. For more information about our Religious School, contact Riley Miner at education@bethahbah.org.

On Sunday, Sept. 14, the Beth Ahabah Brotherhood and the Women of Beth Ahabah hosted a delightful afternoon at New Kent Winery. Everyone enjoyed drinks and hors d’oeuvres, as well as great weather and lively conversations!

Join us Monday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 pm as we close out the High Holy Days with an Erev Simchat Torah Service featuring My Son the Doctor. We celebrate the beginning of a new Torah cycle as we unroll the entire Torah around the Sanctuary, read from the end of Deuteronomy and immediately begin again in Genesis – featuring great music provided by Klezmer/Roma band My Son the Doctor! The service is followed by an ice cream celebration in the Lobby!

Mark your calendars for what has become an annual tradition: a cabaret concert featuring soloists from the Beth Ahabah Choir! Choir Cabaret Concert: Love Songs will be held on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 6:30 p.m. (nosh and schmooze starting at 6 p.m). This year, soloists will perform their favorite Broadway love songs. Come early for the nosh and hear some of your favorite love songs from across the eras!
