RTA to Open Jewish High School in September 2026

Richmond Torah Academy announces inaugural cohort, expanding Jewish educational options for the community

After three years of careful planning and broad community input, RTA - Richmond Hebrew Day School has announced it will begin to educate Jewish high school students this September, welcoming its first cohort of students in fall 2026.

The announcement marks a significant milestone for Jewish education in Richmond — one that some community members have been calling for since RTA's last strategic planning process, when the need emerged.

In opening this new division, the school hopes to provide an option for families who may otherwise not have had access to a modern high school Jewish education for their children. "Families expressed clearly that a gap exists," the school noted in its announcement to the RTA community, "and that addressing it is important for our community’s long-term vitality."

In response, the RTA board established a dedicated task force that spent two years examining school models, assessing financial sustainability, and meeting with interested families. When a critical mass of families indicated their intent to enroll for September 2026, the board moved forward.

The new program will be coeducational and college preparatory, carrying forward RTA's signature blend of meaningful Judaic learning and rigorous academics. Students will have access to enrichment opportunities and advanced coursework. The school plans to begin with a small inaugural cohort and grow thoughtfully over time.

RTA leadership has emphasized that the high school's development will not affect resources dedicated to its existing K–8 program, which will remain the school's core priority.

Families interested in learning more are encouraged to contact RTA directly.
