Grandparents and Special Friends Day at RTA-Richmond Hebrew Day School brought an extra layer of joy to our campus, the energy of generations learning, creating, and celebrating together. By welcoming grandparents and special friends into our school for the morning, we had the chance to share the warmth, connection, and Jewish life that shape the RTA experience.
Rooted in the Jewish value of l’dor v’dor, passing tradition from one generation to the next, the day offered students and their loved ones meaningful time together while giving guests a real glimpse into life at RTA.
The program opened with a beautiful performance by our kindergarten through fourth grade student choir. Standing proudly before their grandparents and special friends, students sang the national anthem, Hatikvah, and “What a Wonderful World.”

Some guests sang along. Others watched with visible pride as their grandchildren or special friends performed with confidence and joy. The music set the tone for the morning, bringing together gratitude, connection to Israel, and appreciation for the world around us.
After the performance, students and their grandparents and special friends gathered in the gymnasium for hands-on craft and mosaic projects. Around every table, generations sat side by side, creating together and sharing stories along the way.

Students eagerly guided their grandparents and special friends through each project, choosing colors, placing pieces, and working together to bring their creations to life. Guests shared memories, asked questions, and enjoyed the opportunity to participate alongside the children. Laughter and conversation filled the gym as families and friends connected through creativity. For many visitors, the experience offered a window into the warmth, energy, and strong relationships that define life at RTA.
The morning concluded with refreshments and an opportunity to share an important initiative: RTA’s playground fundraiser to install safety mulch, helping create a softer and safer play space for our youngest students. This project reflects our community’s shared commitment to providing an environment where every child can grow, learn, and thrive.

As the morning came to a close, grandparents and special friends lingered, continuing conversations and savoring time together. Grandparents and Special Friends Day was a powerful reminder that RTA is more than a school. It is a community where relationships are nurtured, Jewish values are lived, and learning is strengthened through connection across generations.
