Annual Kippah Classic: A Huge Success

The 2nd Annual Kippah Classic was a huge community success.

The evening began with Havdallah led by Yeshiva Senior, Yossi Jacknin.

Living up to the hype, the MC for the event was Yeshiva of Virginia AND Monarch AZA (BBYO) alumni Benny Winkelmann. Ettie & Yali Klestzick stepped in to man the books and scoreboard.

AZA & YVA came ready to play and at halftime the score was tied. The packed stands of fans of all ages were loud and proud of all of our Jewish teens. Halftime was full of fun for the younger kids who entertained the crowd with their large uniform escapades and fabulous shooting.

Official Kippah Classic swag was given out to all the halftime winners, the volunteers who made the evening possible, and all of the players. A big thank you to the Lefkowitz family for designing and sponsoring the t-shirts.

Cohen BBG & Shaarei Torah high school girls had their own program upstairs where they got to know each other, shared Jewish songs, and made beautiful menorahs.

With thanks to Arielle Sherman (Plug for Jewish Student Union!) for supplying the tiles.

At the final buzzer, it was the Yeshiva of Virginia that prevailed on the court, but the true winners for the evening were everyone who showed up to be a part of this event.  As we all enjoyed snacks and high fives for the players, it was unanimous that a good time was had by ALL. Jewish Richmond should be proud. We are a community that understands how to come together.

Federation CEO Daniel Staffenberg commented, "I'm grateful to see the future of our Jewish community come together for friendly competition, tradition, and friendship all in one place. I'm proud of these young adults showing up for each other and for Richmond’s Jewish life."
