Rachel Goldberg-Polin Reflects on the Light in Her Personal Journey

Rachel-Goldberg-Polin will share her personal journey of resilience, grief, strength and hope during a special live Virtual Community Conversation on Sunday, November 8 at 10 a.m.

She is an internationally recognized advocate and speaker who is the author of When We See You Again. This New York Times best seller is a searing portrait in the wake of the tragedy of the death of her 23-year-old son, Hersh, who was executed after surviving 328 days during the hostage crisis.

About the book, she writes, “This book recounts the first steps of a one- million-mile odessey that will take the rest of my life to walk on shattered feet.”

In the book, she writes, “There are days when I break completely - I have cried for an entire day straight, kept hoping I would run out of tears. I didn’t think that (was) physically possible, but the weeping never let up.  And then there are days when there is a whisper of sun. Not out there in the sky. In me. In us.”

She later describes wanting to “pour her pain, love, and longing onto paper, giving voice to the broken among us,” and reminding us that “even when the world feels choked with darkness, light exists in a different way -  remembering how we persevere, how we suffer and how we love.”

In a recent interview on NBC Morning Joe, she described her son as “truly curious … a radical listener. He was a perfect son for me …. His short life of 23 years has touched millions.”
