The 2nd Annual PJ Library LEGO & Latkes event on Sunday, December 14, was a wonderful start to the Chanukah holiday.
Over 30 families, nearly 150 individuals, gathered in the Guzman Community Center, graciously shared with us by the Faison School. Enthusiasm was everywhere, with registration quickly filling up as families from across the Richmond metro area joined in the fun.
Volunteers arrived early to roll out tables, set up chairs, and decorate for an afternoon of LEGO-based fun. Others generously lent DUPLO blocks so even the youngest attendees could take part.
Local sponsor Bricks4Kidz set up several great hands-on building activities, including a collaborative Menorah mosaic, a take-home dreidel build, and a very popular free play floor area.
The Federmann family led us in practicing the Chanukah blessings to kickstart the celebration. Delicious kosher latkes and toppings, and drinks (including gluten-free!) were enjoyed by all.

Said one attendee, “Thank you for having these meaningful events. We love attending.”
Several young participants pulled the prize-winning tickets for folks who registered early or brought donations to the Weinstein JCC Elmer Toth Food Pantry (delivered later that week by still more volunteers!).
Prize winners took home Chanukah candles, PJ Library gifts, and Lego accessories, and all children who attended received a goodie bag, including a gift certificate for local event supporter Bricks and Minifigs.

The 2025 LEGO and Latkes served as a perfect example of how PJ Library and the Jewish Federation work to connect Jewish families with each other and with the greater community.
So many helpful hands reached out to make this event a success, including on-the-spot volunteers the event day. We truly could not have had such a wonderful day without each and every person.
Stay tuned because the PJ Library Team is already looking forward to our next events in 2026!
