October 7 Commemoration Brings Community Together

The community came together on Sunday, October 5, for a moving program dedicated to honoring the memory of those lost in the October 7 attacks and in the ongoing conflict.

The afternoon was designed to create for reflection, dialogue, and healing – and it did just that.

The afternoon began with a solemn commemoration ceremony honoring community members who knew someone affected by this tragedy. Through shared stories, heartfelt prayers, and a moment of silence for the hostages, they honored the lives lost and acknowledged the pain still felt by so many. The ceremony was a powerful reminder of the strength and compassion within the Richmond Jewish Community.

Gal Bukshpan, an American-Israel survivor of the Nova Music Festival, then shared his personal experience and reflections. (pictured above) His story was both harrowing and inspiring, and his presence brought a human face to the tragedy.

The program continued with facilitated group discussions and interactive activities designed to foster meaningful conversation around the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the broader impact of October 7. These sessions provided a safe and respectful space to share, and connect.
