On Friday, May 5th, the congregation recognized two high school graduates who have dedicated their time, talents, and energy to Beth Ahabah. They were both honored with the Lewis I. Held Award at Shabbat services that evening. We are grateful for their years of service to the congregation!

Jane Heffron, a senior at Monacan High School, attended Religious School from First Steps (pre-Kindergarten) through Confirmation. She has served as a madricha (teaching assistant) since eighth grade and traveled to Israel last summer for the P2G Israeli-American Teen trip.

Jane currently serves on the Beth Ahabah Teen and Temple Youth board as the Religious and Cultural Chair. She will be attending Sweet Briar College in the fall, where she has been named a Dean’s Scholar and awarded a scholarship in theatre production.

Miriam Kagan-Dubroff graduated in May from Randolph Henry High School.

Additionally, she earned an Associate’s Degree from the Governor’s School Program at Southside Virginia Community College. During high school, Miriam was very involved in theatrical productions; she has acted in, directed, and choreographed shows. She attended Religious School at Congregation Beth Ahabah and has been a madricha for the past several years. Miriam will be attending Bard College in the fall.

Annual Meeting

The congregation held its annual meeting and installation of officers on the evening of Saturday, May 6th.

Congratulations to the new Beth Ahabah Board officers: President Lee Katz, First Vice President Linda Wren, Second Vice President Cullen Selzer, and Treasurer Andy Littauer. We thank Julie Mullian, immediate past president, for her leadership and devotion to Beth Ahabah throughout her term.

Religious School Pancake Breakfast

On May 7th, the congregation celebrated the conclusion of a fun and exciting year of Religious School with a pancake breakfast sponsored and cooked by the Beth Ahabah Brotherhood.

Religious School teachers and madrichim gather for a photo.

Students, parents, teachers, and staff were treated to delicious blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes, scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, and a variety of fruits, vegetables, sweets, and juice! Religious School ended with appreciation for our amazing teachers and madrichim and was followed by an ice cream sundae social. It was a sweet ending to the year—but we are already looking forward to our first day of school on October 1st, 2023!
