Or Ami celebrated Chanukah beginning on Dec. 11th, when our religious school had a wonderful time, as seen in these photographs.

Or Ami Religious School

Or Ami’s Religious School hosted a fun-filled Chanukah party on Sunday, Dec. 11th, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Students from Or Ami and Or Atid joined together to do all sorts of great Chanukah crafts, games, and activities as part of an ongoing partnership between the two schools. (Or Ami students visited Or Atid in October for a unique community-themed harvest program in their new garden.)

The students from both schools have enjoyed getting to know other Jewish kids their age who also live in Richmond. We look forward to additional collaborative programming in the spring.

There is still time to enroll your children or grandchildren in the Religious School for the spring semester of Or Ami’s Religious School, which begins on Jan. 8th. The spring semester will continue focusing on Torah Stories and Hebrew skills in the coming year.

Intro to Judaism Class

Are you or someone you know thinking about possibly converting to Judaism? Or just interested in learning more about Jewish religion and culture on an adult level?

If so, you will not want to miss Rabbi Ahuva’s Introduction to Judaism course. Beginning on Jan. 10th, this course offers you an incredible opportunity to explore many aspects of Jewish life on a deeper level. Over 16 weeks, you will learn about diverse voices in Jewish thought, Jewish life cycle events, holidays, and significant Jewish values. The class is open to everyone. You do not have to be Jewish or a member of Or Ami to register, so tell your friends and neighbors who are curious about Judaism.

The class will meet in person every other Tuesday, beginning Jan. 10th, and go from 7 to 9 p.m. each session. Tuition is only $50 ($36 for Or Ami members).

You can have a partner, family member, or friend join you in the class at no additional cost. You can register online at https://or-ami.com/intro-to-judaism/ or call the Or Ami office at (804) 272-0017.

Or Ami Book Club meets on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. On Jan. 2nd, we will discuss Blume Lempel’s, “Oedipus in Brooklyn and Other Stories.”

February’s selection (on the 6th) is Gary Shteyngart’s, “Our Country Friends.” For more in-formation or to join, email bookclub@orami.com for your Zoom link

Regular Shabbat Services are held in-person and online Friday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30. Torah Study is held virtually most Saturdays, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Contact our office for a link if you wish to attend.
