Middle schoolers from a variety of synagogues and schools across the community came together at the Weinstein JCC to form their own concepts of Tikkun Olam while responding to the November 2022 Global Day of Jewish theme of “rebuilding.”

In response, they created Tzedek Boxes, based on the concept by Dr. Andrew Kaplan Mandel, a Rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College.

Reflections and acts of Tikkun Olam can be recorded and submitted into the Tzedek Boxes on display in the lobby of the Weinstein JCC, and later at the Virginia Holocaust Museum, where the boxes will be relocated.

In the spring of 2023, the Tzedek Boxes will be opened at the Virginia Holocaust Museum, and the submitted reflections and acts of Tikkun Olam will be read highlighting the importance of each righteous act while encouraging future reflection and action.

More information about Tzedek Boxes can be found on the Tzedek Box website at launch.tzedekbox.org.
