Shabbaton Community Programs featuring amazing Musicians-in-Residence!

By Cantor Sarah Beck-Berman

Congregation Beth Ahabah is excited to invite the entire community to enjoy a special Shabbaton on Jan. 13-14 with our Musicians-in-Residence, acclaimed singer-songwriters Elana Jagoda Kaye and Saul Kaye!

Together, Elana and Saul are lighting up Jewish communities around the country with their unique approach to Jewish music, steeped in deep love and knowledge of our tradition.

Elana Jagoda Kaye (elanajagoda.com) currently serves at a Reform Synagogue in California where she inspires over 800 families on a weekly basis. She grew up in an Orthodox home and went to Conservative summer camp for a decade; her vast array of Jewish experiences and love of Judaism allow her to pray and sing from the deep wellspring of her soul. Her CDs have been distributed to over 50,000 families across the country. Elana plays over 100 shows and services every year and is now touring with her husband, Saul Kaye.

Saul Kaye (saulkaye.com) is a professional musician who found himself drawn over time to the natural marriage of Jewish history, characters, and liturgy with the Blues. This led to the release of Jewish Blues Volumes One, Two, and Three, among other albums. In singing the Jewish Blues, Saul applies his vast array of stylistic influences in an exploration of his own African Roots (he was born in South Africa) as well as Jewish music and Jewish themes.

Congregation Beth Ahabah members will be able to enjoy a free guitar workshop with Saul Kaye, as well as special musical programming during Religious School on Sunday morning with both Musicians-in-Residence.

The entire community is invited to these FREE Shabbaton events:

  • Friday January 13 at 6:15 p.m., a Shabbat Service (preceded by an oneg at 5:45pm) featuring both Musicians-in-Residence
  • Saturday January 14 at 10 a.m., a special Tot Shabbat (for children 0-5 and their grown-ups) with Elana Jagoda Kaye
  • Saturday January 14 at 6:30 p.m., a Havdalah Community Concert Honoring MLK Day with both Musicians-in-Residence (registration required to attend, on the event page at BethAhabah.org/calendar)

The Saturday night Havdalah Community Concert is the first such community-wide event sponsored by the Britlyn Weinstock Community Music Fund, which was established in 2022 in loving memory of Britlyn Weinstock by her parents, Cindy and Harry Weinstock.
