Impact Story 1
JCFR’s PJ Library program creates Jewish moments! PJ Library delivers free Jewish children’s books to families throughout Richmond (and around the world!) every month. Something magical happens when parents sit down together to read with their children. PJ Library shares Jewish stories that help families talk together about values and tradition, creating lifelong moments of Jewish learning and memory.
A program run by JCFR in partnership with the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, PJ Library is made possible through our Annual Campaign and programs are run in partnership with local Jewish organizations. Families raising kids from birth through 9 years old with Judaism as part of their lives, are welcome to sign up. PJ Library welcomes all Jewish families, whatever your background, knowledge, or family make-up, or observance may be. JCFR has been a partner since 2008 and in that time has reached 1300 children in the Richmond community – more than 800 families.
Impact Story 2
Did you know that JCFR support’s the Jewish Agency for Israel Masa programs, which offers a once-in-a-lifetime Israeli experience? Since 2004 The Jewish Agency has been helping Jewish youth make the Masa Israel Journey. The experience can take on many forms (from 2-to-10-month excursions), but the result is the same—a new generation of leadership-minded Jews with a stronger bond to Israel and a deeper understanding of life in our shared homeland.
More than 150,000 young people from over 60 countries have made the trip, experiencing an authentic, unmediated, and challenging journey into Israeli society, its people, culture, politics, economy, land, and history. While COVID has impacted the number of travelers in the last year-and-a-half, approximately 50 Richmonders have taken advantage of this program in the last 18 years!
