Or Atid Happenings

It’s been an eventful last couple of months at Or Atid!

In April, Congregation Or Atid, in conjunction with Quioccasin Baptist Church and River Road Church, Baptist, had an interfaith conversation with our religious leaders, Rabbi Hal Schevitz, Rev. Dr. Theodore Brown, and Rev. Dr. Daniel Glaze. Held on Zoom over a three-week period, each week focused on a different topic.

During week 1, the clergy had a discussion surrounding our spring holidays.  During the second week, the topic was focused on what makes a Christian and what makes a Jew. The third session was focused on what makes a neighbor, and participants were able to go into breakout rooms and interact with each other.

While all Or Atid physical Synagogue and school activities are canceled until further notice, please join us for our virtual offerings and education.

We are looking forward to future collaboration between our houses of worship.

Annual Meeting

On May 16, Congregation Or Atid held its annual meeting via Zoom.  We successfully passed our 2021-22 budget and voted in our new slate of officers.   Lynn Landesman was re-elected President, Leslie Archer, Michael Marcus, and Rick Wiener were elected as Vice Presidents. David Jaffe was reelected as Treasurer and Tom McClish was elected as advisor.

We also welcomed Will Frank, Henry Salomonsky, and Sandy Mayer to the Board of Governors.  Rachel Mollen and Melissa Hart were re-elected to the Board of Governors.

We have begun the process of reopening our Synagogue.  On Monday May 17, we held Shavuot services in person to limited attendees, as well as live-streamed the service.

We also had 3 B’nai Mitzvah in May with a combination of limited in person and live streaming.  Mazel Tov to Emory Brown, Alec Coffey and Cady Bunce on your achievements!
