Jewish Community Federation of Richmond

In a very poetic way, the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond’s year usually starts alongside Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

For thousands of years, Rosh Hashanah has been the time that we as a Jewish people gather to hear the Shofar sound, representing our spiritual alarm clock to let us know a new year has begun. For 85 years, announcing the start of the Annual Campaign has been the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond’s equivalent of the shofar blowing.

Both represent a call to action. A reminder to say, it is time to step up, and start fresh as a Jewish community.

$3.2 Million!

This past year, however, there was unimaginable uncertainty entering into the Jewish year of 5781, and the 2021 Annual Campaign.

As we individually were trying to figure out how we would celebrate the high holidays, Federation leadership was at work determining how to raise the financial and human resources our community needs to not only operate, but also to thrive.

Now as the Federation’s Annual Campaign is coming to a close, we are thrilled to announce that for the first time in over a decade, our community has raised over $3.2 million!

Resilient Community

While we should all celebrate this accomplishment, it’s important to know that it is not a surprising one. Despite all the uncertainty, one thing we’ve always known is how lucky we are to be a part of this resilient community.

We articulated that the community needed your support, and you stepped up.

By reading a joint commentary on Page 3 by JCFR President Ellen Renee Adams and CEO Daniel Staffenberg, you can see how those funds have already started to make an immediate impact on our community.

I also encourage you to join us for the Federation’s Virtual Annual Meeting on June 2 where we will continue to celebrate this success.

If you have not had the chance to make your impact, please make sure to contact me at jfeld@jewishrichmond.org, or by visiting jewishrichmond.org to make a donation today.
