To commemorate Yom Hashoah, Israel’s National Holocaust Remembrance Day, Arts + Ideas at the Weinstein JCC will present a recorded, staged reading of the play, “The Soap Myth,” starring 7-time Emmy Award-winning actor, Ed Asner.

The Soap Myth dramatically explores how a Survivor survives surviving and questions who has the right to write history – those who have lived it and remember, those who study and protect it, or those who would seek to distort and desecrate its very existence.

Panel Discussion on April 8

A panel discussion with “The Soap Myth” playwright, Jeff Cohen, Virginia Holocaust Museum Director of Education Megan Ferenczy and Holocaust refugee and community member, Captain Alex Keisch, will take place via Zoom on Thursday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to watch the staged reading prior to the talkback  to get the most out of the program.

Free Tickets

Tickets are free thanks to the generous support provided by the Henry and Gertrude Kupfer Holocaust Education Fund of Richmond Jewish Foundation. To receive the link to the play and to register for the talkback discussion on April 8, visit weinsteinjcc.org/events/.

Arts + Ideas at the Weinstein JCC introduced a brand-new cultural arts series, “Behind the Music,” this past season.

The first two programs, “Music & The Movies” and “The Lives of Isaac Stern,” brought out the stories of the people and events that inspired the music we know and love.

Behind the Music: April 13

The third and final Behind the Music program, “A Musical Journey Inside the Hatikvah” (Israel’s National Anthem) is scheduled for Tuesday, April 13 at 2 p.m., EST via Zoom in celebration of Yom Ha’Atzmaut, Israeli’s Independence Day.

In this virtual lecture concert, renowned Israeli composer and musician, Roi Aloni, will share the origins and story behind this beautiful and meaningful national song.

Listeners of all ages are invited to join, along with presenting partners, Pozez JCC, Bender JCC, and United Jewish Federation of Tidewater for an inside look at what’s behind the music.

Tickets are $12 per household and can be purchased at weinsteinjcc.org/events.
