On Sunday, January 24, twenty women virtually came together to learn a family recipe from Mandy Silverman, the Challah Guru.

This event, hosted by the Federation’s Pearl Society, was a family affair, with sisters and aunts joining together to try “Baubie Pearl’s Knishes” – a complete, and happy, coincidence with the shared first name of Mandy’s Baubie and Society’s name.

Each member of the group had the opportunity to introduce themselves over Zoom and share their favorite Jewish food, before diving into the traditional recipe.  Participants were able to make the recipe as both a savory and sweet version, with potatoes or a mix and match of jam, nuts, and chocolate. This lunchtime event was perfect for the end result of more than a dozen oven-baked knishes to be enjoyed that afternoon and later in the week.

The Pearl Society connects young women donors, aged 22-45, who contribute $180 or more toward the Annual Campaign. For more information, please contact ABraun@JewishRichmond.org.
